Here I show how to get a decent estimate of the speed of an aircraft (or any other noisy moving object) just from a recording of its sound as it goes by. The method makes use of the Doppler Effect, which is derived from first principles in this video up to second order. An iterative algorithm to correct for acceleration is developed at the end.
