  • Anyone know how to post url's on Youtube comments?

  • LOL - so you also have kids who like to write "evil scripts" :-) Are your systems always open for students to run remote commands like halt and eject, or did you temporarily lower your security for this demo?

  • At the time I made this I was experimenting with Linux. Connor was the only student with root access. (He's trustworthy.) The setup I have now is very secure. It's much easier to manage than the Windows lab.

  • Not bad, but you may want to look into cleaning the audio up a bit. Also, I don't mean to start any debates as to which is better, but why not try using XFCE (Xubuntu) as it is far lighter on the system.

Good job with the vid though, I think this could turn into a rather popular YouTube Series... Might help to promote schools to teach students about a real OS :)

  • Audio: Which part of the audio did you think could be better?

Xubuntu: Agreed, I should make the Xubuntu desktop available. One reason for Kubuntu is a program called Kiosktool. Kiosktool + some manual filesystem permissions can really secure a system.

Over the summer we imaged 200 computers to offer a really neat dual-boot option in all of the computer classes.

We'll post documentaries here and link our website that explains how it all works in September.

    Thank you,

    Josh Beck

  • I also found this video through the teacher's /. post. I would have loved to have an education like this in middle school, and think it's great that you're teaching kids to do this!

Two questions: Are all these computers running on (K)ubuntu, and what's with the background music?

  • Hello, and thanks. We'll be posting more videos when school resumes in the fall for sure.

1.) We run (K) Ubuntu edgy eft.

2.) The music segment is from Fraggle Rock.

  • @jbeckneisdnet And to think you dont even need a ssh key to access a windows machine rofl scary huu

  • @jbeckneisdnet CTRL-V on Windows or Linux, CMD-V on Mac.

  • Before everything on ubuntu . You have to use Terminals all the time... Good thing they made it more User Friendly now .

  • :( i wish my school would teach this

  • can you write the script on youtube please for i can not see it so good.

  • Not Exactly "Hacking"

  • I don't think i have ever actually used the eject command. Oh except this one time to piss off my brother in the next room. I told him it must have been a ghost.

  • I don't think that's part of the curriculum..

  • Fragle Rock is awesome you gotta love Jim

  • I did something similar to this with ping and a loop... crashed my laptop running it but my desktop/server ran over 10,000,000 ping commands simultaneously before the kernel said "im not allocating any more memory to you" and it just stopped running anymore ping processes. What was even more fun was trying to kill those zombie bastards lol (had to make a script to do it for me). A quad-core computer with 8Gb of ram can handle a $&*#load of processes.
