I don't know the names for these kinds of things so I just titled this video the way I did. I think the United States should use these for the crosswalks because it's better for pedestrians to know when to hurry across the street.

My brother and I were talking about the traffic light, and I wasn't paying attention to when the animated figure started to "run" on the thing.

  • You can just call it a pedistrian signal. I have some similar ones where I live in California but they don't have the animated walking man. When it changes to walk; the hand gets replaced by a man walking and a countdown timer pops up next to it. When you only have 8 seconds left to cross, the numbers on the timer start flashing; telling you to hurry up and run.

  • I didn't know what to call it but now I do. I think I've seen what you're talking about but I'm not sure.

  • Cool video. They are referred to as countdown signals. Yes, they have them in many California cities, as well as all over the US now. None that I've seen are as cool as that one. In Midtown Atlanta, there is a ped head (the slang term for those signals) that has eyes moving back and forth when the pedestrians are allowed to cross.
