On May 21, 2009, the Neptune Pacific Trading vessel MV Scarlett Lucy intercepted a distress call from the Australian Rescue Control Centre (RCC). According to the call, the 16m sailing vessel Sumatra II, with 2 persons onboard, was taking on water and sinking well out of range of mainland rescue ships or helicopters. The Scarlett Lucy altered their course to rescue the sinking yacht.
Despite the danger of staging a rescue in the raging 8-meter swells in the dark of night, the crew of the Scarlett Lucy, made up of 15 Fijian hands and one Philippine national, did not hesitate to help a fellow seaman in distress.
This video shows the dramatic rescue of the two men. With the survivors safely on board, the crew of the MV Scarlett Lucy continued en route to Sydney where they berthed early Sunday morning, May 24th. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority's Search and Rescue Officer, Noel Molloy, presented the very humbled crew with a Certificate of Appreciation and plaque for their outstanding efforts in this successful rescue.

Great work. The crew should be proud of a job well done in poor conditions.
