Excerpt from The Eye of Cassiopeia,
a mask theatre piece by Pyjama Chair.

With Diomedes Koufteros and Pascal Caron.

The Eye of Cassiopeia is a new theatrical performance based on mask workshops and improvisations. The performers allow the mask, this inanimate, solid object even as it changes expressions and moods to lead them towards the characters, the story and dialogue of a new Cypriot theatrical performance. On the way it borrows elements from other performative arts and uses humor, movement, visuals, music and speech for story telling.

The performance is inspired by the myth of the vain Queen Cassiopeia who boasted unrivaled beauty. After her death, Cassiopeia and her daughter Andromeda became constellations.

Sets: Melita Couta, Lights: Carolina Spyrou.
Masks by Pascal Caron, Diomedes Koufteros, Melita Couta and Antonis Katsaris.
Technical Production: Paraplevros Paragoges, Organisation: Stephanie Polykarpou, Assistant: Maria Achilleos, Program/Poster Photographs: George Ioannou, Graphics: Menta Projects.
Presented at Melina Merkouri Hall in Nicosia, Cyprus, in March 2010.
