The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is a centre of excellence for research, training and medical care of HIV and related infectious diseases located in Kampala Uganda. Alex Coutinho, Executive Director of the IDI, and Jack Watters, Vice President External Medical Affairs Pfizer, talk about the IDI's focus in strengthening care and treatment for people living with HIV across Africa through offering high quality training for health workers; research on best practices related to HIV in low resource settings; and advanced clinical services that support the development of new models of care. Pfizer, Accordia Global Health Foundation, Makerere University, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Pangaea Global AIDS Foundation and other organizations partnered to establish the IDI in Uganda in 2004.
