Help Save Lucy

Lucy is an Asian elephant currently residing at the Edmonton Valley Zoo in Alberta, Canada. Not only is she undergoing many different chronic health issues and over weight problems that are fatal to elephants, but she is also the last elephant in North America that is living by herself. The zoo in which she currently lives in is too cold and does not have the right climate or conditions she needs. Lucy is kept indoors for the majority of the day, living within an exhibit that is too small. Before Lucy was living with another elephant, Samantha, however after her trunk got severely injured-with 20cm torn off- during an accident while trying to reach the handle of the gate, she soon left to another zoo on a breeding loan. Many people have wrote to the City of Edmonton, as they are in charge of the Edmonton Valley Zoo, however, they still believe that Lucy is best kept in her small, isolated exhibit.

For more information on Lucy, please visit:

Letters and emails are also needed, if you want to help by sending one please visit:
http://www.zoocheck.com/campaigns_elephant_action.html

And for tips on how to write these letters, go to:

To learn more about the elephant sanctuary in Tennessee, where Lucy had been asked to join, visit:

Thanks for watching, and remember: even if you do not write a letter to the city etc. as long as you spread the word and raise awareness to the people around you, it all helps and makes a difference.

:)

Note: Some of the video footage used was from: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WupAMExJlE
as I couldn't travel to Edmonton myself...
-and the song used in the video is called "To build a home" by Patrick Watson
-Keep in mind also that I had limited resources to make this video and thus is supposed to be more informative than for entertainment purposes.
-In addition, I'd just like to also say that I do not work with Zoocheck or any other organization, I'm just a concerned citizen wanting to help save Lucy and hopefully make a difference...

  • Samantha wasn't sent to Tennessee, she was sent to another zoo in North Carolina for breeding.

Lucy is now banging her head against the bars in her cage.

Thank you for putting this video together, cotonsalways

  • Oops! Thanks for pointing that out. Yes, I do believe I read that in my research but just wrote it down wrong or misinterpreted it. It is a shame the breeding loan is only for a fixed period of time and not a forever home though...

Thanks for you comment, elemama10, glad you enjoyed the video! I just hope we can help Lucy soon, this whole ordeal has been going on for too long...

  • Oh, and P.S., thanks for letting me use some of the video footage that you had taken of Lucy, as Edmonton is too far for me to travel! :)

  • Opps! Sorry AHTgirl, I accidentally removed your comment by mistake, while trying to post a comment of my own... I will put what you said below because everyone is allowed to voice their own opinion. I believe your comment went along the lines of

" You really shouldnt post things that you know nothing about. Just because you've been to the zoo and seen her once doesnt mean you know anything about her or the situation. Next time you may want to actually post factual information."

  • Thanks for the comment and advice. However, for starters, I think her medical records speak for themselves. Just to be clear, all of my information has come from reliable organizations and sources, and I'm just stating her current status. Fact is that she is still alone and neglected of her social needs.

  • (Con't ^) Samantha had already amputated her trunk partially trying to get out, and I think that says a lot too. I'm sorry if this video has offended you in some way, however, I feel that everyone has their own right to freedom of speech, and I think that people are entitled to hear ALL sides of the story.

  • Boycott the zoo get em where it hurts. They don't give a shit. Sign the free Lucy petition email the bastards. I emailed them and the sent me an email back for me to go on their website to see how happy Lucy is. Boycott zoo at all costs spread the word

  • I guess you may want to go back in this century then. The handlers I have met/known care VERY much for the animals.

  • I've been to the Vally Zoo ....fund it or close it. The place was built in a time when it was ok to use animals for profit with no consideration about about their health or well being.

  • The Edmonton Valley Zoo has

refused to allow any independent veterinarian access to Lucy to evaluate her

health and only rely on the evaluation of Dr. Oosterhuis. The only one out of 11 experts that Maggie the Alaskan elephant not be transported. Maggie was successfully moved to a California elephant sanctuary two years ago and is thriving among her own kind. Edmonton has to create a properly funded humane environment or give this animal to someone who can properly care for her.

  • the spineless deserters felt right at home with you deporthtedeserters that''s why they gravitated to you ...you know like attracts like...keep 'em they're a match made in your own image.you should love that you're so self centered and only want what you want regardless of who's hurt or at whose expense...you deserve each other

  • ...Lucy has NO issues with her feet!...as for her weight, she is on a diet...you are making a video about an elephant that you never met nor seen...and you want us to think you CARE for her???...there is no way I would or could believe she will get better care or treated better in a different facility...she is loved by her handlers as those who go to SEE her...

  • she needs love too!

  • Lucy ISNT FINE! LOOK AT THE GROUND ITS HARD! SHE COULD HAVE FEET INFECTION! I WANT HER TO GO TO THE ELEPHANT SANCTUARY TENESSE WHERE SHE COULD HAAVE LOTS OF SPACE AND BE WITH HER FRENDS TOO! ITS A BIIIG HUUGE PLACE THERE LIKE LONGER THEN MY SCHOOL, LOOK AT THE CAGE THERE SO SMAALLL , AT THE SANCTUARY ITS A HOME FOR THEM..SO SEND LUCY THERE!
