Gameplay from 3D Grand Prix playing on the Amstrad (Schneider) CPC 464 8 bit vintage home computer.

This is not a review, walkthrough, playthrough, or demonstration of my playing ability.
It's more a case of me speaking my thoughts while playing the games, many for the first time, and most for the first time in a very long time... so it's all a little spontaneous and random.
Predictably, as I never practice before recording, I usually play very badly.

Given that I am playing many of these games for the first time, and everything I say is completely off the cuff, you probably shouldn't take what I say overly seriously. The opinions that I express are my feelings at the time, but it's entirely possible that they would be different if I were to take the time to get to grips with the game.

However, given that these videos are intended to show that "first time experience", I believe they have some validity or merit.

  • It looks fairly nippy. Is the emulator trickery doing that.

  • @bazfanv2 I'm not using an emulator. This is running on a real CPC464.

  • Looks a bit like Revs on the C64 but the animation and speed is a lot faster. This isn't bad. Like the animation on the front wheels. Good scaling and giant graphics. For an 8 bit game it seems to play very VERY well.

  • @markvergeer Yeah, it impresses the hell out of me. This is one of those games that I sat and played for quite a while after I'd finished recording the video, just for the pure enjoyment of it :)

  • You have a Jupiter Ace. Therefore, you win.

  • hann j'ai trop joué la dessus !! i played this game when i was just a kid !! nice ! ty ! !

  • looks very good for an amstrad, compared with the crappy early grand prix game i had

  • @markvergeer REVS was true 3D though (in a sense) rather than sprite based like this is.

  • Looks like they were leveraging the CRTC to pull off huge sprites and smooth scrolling like that. Lots of clever palette swapping too.

  • thanks for this video of my first real driving simulator ^^

  • I upgraded to a monochrome monitor cpc464, from my 48k spectrum, when I was 15. Is the speed and graphic resolution of the cpc464, the same or better than the commodore 64. I thought the 6502 chip in the C64 AND BBC B,was better than the Z80 cpu in the cpc464. How can the cpc464 be better than the C64, when both machines have 64K memory and the cpc464 only has the Z80 cpu. Please someone email/comment me with some answers. I would be most grateful.

  • The graphics were great on this. But it was a crap game. Basically you got to 4th and pelted it along the straights then on corners you went back to the red line. If you overheated you slow to outside the red zone. If yout hit a car or sign or spun off then you lost a place??? The scenery was quite cool but there was no change to the track itself.
