@HelloMrTaylor yup the average seems to be 8500 rpm. and an article a few months back pointed at bikes with carburetors living longer if they occasionally approached the redline. apparently the carbs are flushed and kept clean by the wide rpm band.

@TommoEvo8MR I have seen the dyno for this bike-- and it achieves maximum torque between 6 and 9K. I think what you are reading is maximum horsepower, but if you are looking for maximum acceleration you need the most torque, not horsepower.
Your right about it hurting the bike; it doesn't. As long as you don't hit redline, and it won't do any damage to the engine. Personally, I accidentally shift into neutral so often that I try to keep my revs under 9K to avoid redlining accidentally...

i have a 2008 gs500f, ive only had her 5 days but after about 8000 rmp sounds like it starts to struggle *aka unhealthy* some bikes sound amazing at high revs (10k onwards) but i dont think it does it any good tbh! i think the redline is about 11k but im too scared to take her that high :|! lol

nope just goes up n up till it pops!

Do they even have rev limiters?

@TommoEvo8MR i might be mistaken, but from what i have seen these bikes make roughly the same power from 8k~10k and start losing after that, if you want to max it out shift around 10k it'll drop back to ~7.5k and you're consistently in the peak powerband.

@TommoEvo8MR all learner bikes powerbands are late in the rpm o u cant fuck up take offs ect andi agree if u keep it above 6.500rpm the bike tranforms froma comuter into a underpowered gixxer.

@RippinSkullz ...best thing i can say for understanding what i mean by dumping the clutch is to find a video on here with the bike sounds of people doing wheelies on the highway...itll be sounding normal then itll red line (when he pulls the clutch) then itll go down a little bit then back to high revs...thats the best i can explain it, it would actually be easier for me to ride to canada to show so...pm if u got anything else so i dont need a million comment boxes haha
hello everyone, I´m from Brazil and I´ve a GS500 E 2008 (in Brazil there is no F version).
I´m very glad when readed in this posts that the passion for the GS line is the same than here.
I fell the same that CHEMKOUV says: "...there is complete transformation after 7000rpm, incredible racing sound!!! right?..."
YES THAT AMAZING BIKE AFTER 7K.
Riding until 5k she is very economic and after7K very sporting bike.
Nice video. The colour blue is original in the instruments/? And motor sound?

Nah I changed the bulbs to blue.. motor is standard, as is the exhaust. It was a bit of fun for a learner legal bike but I'm glad I've moved onto a bigger bike now.

Um... also, that was almost 70mph in 3rd gear. And yes... it is VERY VERY bad to be shifting in the RED-LINE... that's why it's a REDLINE! Lol. I always shift between 6 and 9k depending on how fast I'm accelerating... as long as you're in the power band you're fine. If you shift at 5k rpm and your next gear drops in at 4k rpm it SUCKS... totally drops the power. Always shift between 6 and 10k..

Hope your kidding... have you seen a dyno sheet for these bikes? Bike makes its max power at redline, so if you want the maximum acceleration from it, you need to take it there. It won't hurt it.
