Photo Slideshow about the making of the first feature length film of James Herriots book.
The first feature film version of James Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small was filmed in Ryedale, Yorkshire, in the summer of 1974. Directed by Claude Whatham, it starred Simon Ward, Lisa Harrow, Jan (Tricki Woo) and Anthony Hopkins. Locations used included Farndale, Pickering and Malton and many local people were used as extras.
The film was made by Venedon Films Ltd and distributed by EMI Film Distributors. These still photos capture some of the filming one Sunday in May 1974, Malton, North Yorkshire.
Reading James Herriot's books is like a ray of warm sunlight on a winter day! I'm reading them for the fifth time, and I enjoy them as if it were the first!

At 1.45, 1.54, 209, that is the real James and Helen Herriott immediately to the left of the bride. A great writer. Still have his original published books from the seventies.
