With all the misinformation I've been hearing on this subject lately, it's refreshing to see your video, thoughtfully presenting the facts. Thanks for all your time and effort.

@BexarPrepper - Oh, cool! I have one near me. Thanks so much!

@katiatomsk I agree on the quality of the cans in store canned food. I am no longer willing to stock any cans from stores as the expiration of the few I have on my shelf come up I will replace with all my own canning. Blessings!

@APhilCollinsFan One thing we noticed by experience: hubby dropped a can of cat food with a pull top so it landed straight down on the floor. No noticeable damage, went to open it and the lid kind of flew off! The fall had loosened the seal enough to break the seal. So we are wary of the pull tops now.

Last year I have had two bulging cans. One was sweet potatoes and the other was green beans, both purchased cans of food. In my experience, the "safety" of purchased food is going down.
I have been transitioning to meat I pressure can and all other items I buy for long term storage in #10 cans which have been dehydrated or freeze dried. I like the Thrive brand because it tastes the best to us.
Thanks for the clarity on botulism. It is very important to know.
Good info! How/Where do you get your gauge checked? Thanks!

why are you saying that pears have to be pressure canned? I have always heard, and read in everything, canning books etc, that fruit can be water bath canned?

@mininecessities humm did I? No pears don't have to be pressure canned. I was refering mostly to the crappy can's that our store bought foods come in. Jars keep the foods good for a much longer time. Blessings!

Mainstays = Wal Mart's house brand = made in China. China strikes again. I would stay away from the jars and lids from Mainstays!!!

@fmsracing442 I agree I was watching someone else's canning failure on youtube and they also had the mainstay jars. I really think it's the lids not the jars though. Blessings!
