Meher Baba interviewed by British historian, Charles Purdom in London, England on April 8th, 1932. Produced by the Paramount Film company.

taken from the 1994 documentary, 'Meher Baba, The Awakener.'

Avatar Meher Baba was born in Poona, India in 1894. His mission as Avatar, the Hindu word for Godman, started in 1921 and developed as a practical example of his principle message of love. He worked with disciples in India, Europe, America and the poor of India, through free schools, dispensaries and shelters. His life was devoted not to teaching but to awakening humanity to the unifying message of love and the Truth given by great messengers of the past. His belief that all had been said was given emphasis by his observing silence for 44 years, from 1925 until his death in 1969.

  • I am a great fan of MB but there is no way that guy is translating all those words unless they are using a special shorthand that has been agreed, and he is an expert.... or else he is a psychic reading the guy's mind....:) Actually I always wished he would have kept speaking... his books are hard to understand, but I have been glad to use his prayers...

  • well, there's been a few comments regarding the 'impossibility' of reading this message from the board. i don't have a definite explanation other than the fact that there were a few people who were adept at quickly reading Baba's alphabet board. (not sure if charles purdom was one of them, however.) another possibility is that Baba's message was prepared before hand, so that it was easy for mr. purdom to quickly translate.

  • also, keep in mind that this interview was probably shot with only one camera, so the film co. most likely shot the interview using a master (2-shot), and then moved in for various close-ups where the action (and possibly dialogue) was repeated.

  • He's like an Indian version of Charles Manson. The Eastern culture mystifies and brainwashes Westerners into thinking they should build a house for an Avatar in Myrtle Beach, SC. People are way too desperate.

  • manson!? sorry, but that's the most ridiculous comparison i've heard yet. the people who built a center for Meher Baba in Myrtle Beach did so out of love.

  • I love hearing such glib and wildly off stories that get passed around. He cut his tongue and mouth in a 1952 USA car accident, but didn't lose it. This wass 27 years into his silence, which was started in 1925. In the last few days of his life, January 1969, he spoke a few words to close ones, apparently beginning the breaking of His Silence. Now he speaks to all within our hearts, if we are only able to listen!

  • @timmer17 and also these great unique individuals have no reason to be in the body but they are still around out of their great compassion..and these idiots only understand brainwashing...

  • I am a Falun Gong practitioner. Falun Dafa is a cultivation system in the Buddha School based on the principles of the Universe: 真 Truthfulness 善 Compassion

     忍 Forbearance.

Since 1999 it has been brutally persecuted by the CCP in China. People are being killed, tortured, put into concentration camps and have organs harvested from live people, simply because of their belief. More than 3400 Falun Gong practitioners have died at the hands of CCP in the past 12 years.

  • @bayridge108 The funny thing is that you don't really know that any of what you just said is true. It's all based on belief.

  • @risforrationalism That is such a hilariously wrong statement! You have obviously done little to no research about Meher Baba. Whether he is the Avatar or not, there's no denying that he was a very special individual (once you know the facts). You can do better than compare him to Charles Manson.

  • @ImaginedWriter We might have a more advanced civilization in the ordinary sense of the word, but does that mean more spiritually advanced? Ask yourself this: How many people in America are truly happy and content with their lives? Most people experience a shallowness or emptiness in their lives, despite having many material comforts. That is what Meher Baba is about. Filling that emptiness. So what country is from shouldn't really make a difference. Also, he's not a "barbarian". Do research.

  • @jayjayfroggy .... where have u read that Baba had spoken a few words to close ones in the last days...this is absolutely wrong information...He never did utter a single word after observing his silence....He only speaks to all within our hearts.... Jai baba..

  • @ProfessorMystic meher baba has re incarnated and lives quietly in Germany known only to a few

  • @PMnews1 Things that are important: the man's message. Things that are unimportant: the man's nose, how fast his fingers are moving, etc.

  • @risforrationalism Your comment was shallow. (A feeble attempt at humor, perhaps?) For the sake of your comparison, when did Meher Baba ever tell his people to murder others? Or, when did Manson ever tell his people that they should love all beings as manifestations of the one, only, truly existent God?

  • What a waste of space, a silly barbarian from a primitive land lecturing the most advanced civilization in the history of man lol.
