'The next time you walk down a busy street you are quite likely to pass a man, a woman or a child who has been tortured', says Ms Brita Sydhoff, Secretary-General of the IRCT - the International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims.

Here she tells that torture is widespread in more than 100 countries across the world and that at least one in five refugees has been tortured.

But she also brings a message of hope: "... something can be done to help torture survivors and their families rebuild their lives" and you can be part of this effort.
