  • Its the best language system around well done steve on LingQ

  • Thanks David, now we just have to get the word out.

  • Might be out off topic. I recall watching a video where you mention the name of a book written by a Catalan native in Spanish. Can you tell me the name of the author and the book please?

  • It turns out that he is not Catalan although from Barcelona. El sombra del Viento de Carlos Ruiz Zafon

  • One reason I don't like flashcards is because they create the situation that I feel is artificial and I don't feel comfortable with. Secondly, I've discovered I must encounter a word several times in order to get it's meaning and usage right and the flashcard software doesn't really help me much. If I want to acquire more words in a give topic I will listen and read about that topic. I'm not saying no one should use such a method, it simply doesn't seem to be effective in my case.

  • i use the flashcards on lingq all the time, and in my school studies im too lazy to make them but back when i had vocabulary lists i would just cover one side and basically do the same thing. for me the best way to learn vocabulary is to memorize it (like from cards), then see it in context two or three times. after that it usually sticks.

  • Hi Steve, thanks for all the great videos. Ive been following your vlog for a little while now. This one made me decide to give lingq a try. Im a learner of Japanese, but my reading ability is still below average. Im a heavy flashcard user, myself. So perhaps using lingq's text-based approach I can amass more passive vocabulary, which I feel I really need at this stage of my learning!

Please keep up the great job!

  • btw Steve you're a real motivator for me. Not about Lingq, but generally that you can go out and speak with such motivation about language learning, and take on Russian with no apparent stress.

  • Flash Cards, like Grammar, teach you nothing apart from the language. When you listen to the radio, you learn about your community. Reading books is fun and you enjoy the stories. Reading the news is current affairs.

I take the attitude, that if I wouldn't do a particular activity in English, then its not gonna be fun in a second language either. I know learning can't always be fun! You need to, once in a while focus on figuring out the German case system, or peak at the adjectival endings.

  • dont like wiki anyways....lol
