Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) is often misdiagnosed as multiple sclerosis (MS) due to the similarity of symptoms. Working to solve this puzzle, Mayo Clinic researchers examined blood samples and discovered a biological pattern known as NMO IgG antibody biomarker, for which some NMO patients test positively. The NMO IgG biomarker helps scientists separate patients who have NMO and those who have MS a critical breakthrough for finding a cure for NMO. All MS patients are encouraged to test for NMO.

  • My girlfriend just went into the ER this past weekend and was diagnosed with Optical Neuritis (NMO?). It's very confusing to hear all the lack of information about the differences between the different levels of these specific diseases, and this video definitely helped us in having a more intelligent conversation with our local specialists. Thank you so much for posting this. Youtube is definitely for more than just idle entertainment! :D
