The sad thing is that Bill Owen had the sort of Cancer that does not show symptoms until well advanced. I think Bill had been ill for quite a long time. If you look from Series 17 onwards his appearance declines rapidly so he could have been declining for some years before his death. Wonderful actor and really nice man. R.I.P. Bill

What a wonderful episode. I live in Washington State, USA, and have been watching for several years. This episode was on, but had major editing. Thanks for providing it in full. The series far surpasses the so called comedy now produced in the USA. It has a gentle, fun approach to life and relationships between people. It reminds me to appreciate each day I have. The settings are gorgeous.

I remember watching the next few episodes and tearing up a bit myself. It was like I had lost a real friend in Compo.
That's one of the things I've always admired about this show, when an actor died, they just wrote it into the script. You lost Wally and Sid and I don't know who else, and the show still went on. Wish it could have kept up forever, but Bill Owen and Peter Sallis were just the heart and soul and it never was the same without Compo. Some interesting episodes with Tom Owen though.

bill owen aka compo it has been and always will be a honour.

agree totally!

He looked and sounded off during the episode but it didn't become really noticeable until the closing shot. Its a shame that he died so suddenly and LOSW hasn't been the same without him.
btw. Does anyone know who that woman in the shot with Wesley, Barry and Glenda was? I don't recognize her.

Thank you very much for posting this. I'm in the U.S. and have never gotten to see this episode. On many levels it is one of the finest things I've seen. Funny, sad, poignant. I wish I could get all of the Last of the Summer Wines in a collection on dvds. In the meantime I'll just be thankful to folks like Kylerob19 for posting so many episodes here.

When my girlfriend and I watched the next episode (Fallen Wellies) she got upset with the BBC for killing off her favorite TV character. When I told her Bill Owen died for real I didn't think she'd ever stop crying. I felt the same way. He brought a lot of happiness into my life and the lives of my family.
He is missed.
This was the last episode filmed with Bill Owen - he died just a few days after it wrapped - hence the unusual closing minute.
