Man sagt, Karajan habe nur das Standart-Repertoire der Klassik beherrscht. Man sagt, er habe selbst dort nur stereotype Wohlklang-Ästhesik betrieben und nichts Bleibendes geschaffen. Man sagt, bei den Werken der Spätromantik und der Gegenwartmusik sei er an seine Grenzen gestoßen...
Die Inspiration und die technische Brillianz schon allein der hier vorliegenden Einspielung von Mahlers Fünfter beweist ganz eindeutig das Gegenteil!

Thanks for posting this video. Karajan interpretations/recordings need to be preserved and treasured as a model of greatness!

@Bochoff1 Das er Wert auf technische Brillianz legte bestreitet wohl niemand, im Gegenteil, es ist Teil der Wohlklang-Ästhetik, gegen die ich nichts habe. Inspiriert ist diese Aufnahme allerdings nicht, genauso wenig wie fast alle Karajan-Aufnahmen. Außer vielleicht bei Mozart-Symphonien wird man immer eine bewegender4e Aufnahme finden als Karajan, höre dich einfach mal um.
