This was the first song I heard from Third, before the album came out - I thought only a few bands would actually ever dare this and even less could pull it off, and Portishead, they just prooved that they're not to be trifled with. I heard somewhere Chuck D ran up on stage while they where performing Machine Gun and started flowing!!! What I would give to have experienced that !!!

a lot of bands play almost every song faster live. it's probably just nerves.

It is more of a choice, actually. Live, you want to have quicker songs.
