In service: 2005-present Used by:
Malaysia - The Royal Malaysian Police Counter-terrorist special forces, Pasukan Gerakan Khas (PGK).

The weapon is shown on several photos from the unit's recruitment day. The HK416 is currently (2008) the standard assault rifle of the unit.
Norway - On April 11, 2007, the Norwegian Ministry of Defence signed a contract for an initial shipment of 8,200 rifles to serve as its new standard assault rifle, replacing the AG-3 that has been in use since 1967. looks like this weapon could beat the modern AKs because of its accuarcy which AKs lack. and dont tell us the 223. or the 5.56 NATO cant kill. why not ask a friend of yours to test it on yourself?
Oh, and I ran out of space to mention that it needs the charging handle placed in a different position! I prefer the side, myself, mainly 'cause you can keep your cheek in the desired position AND it can also serve as the brass deflector and dust cover - all with one modification!
All the other controls can stay where they are, mayhaps with the exception of the hammer release. But, whatever. Such is the beauty of the AR platform. Very maleable indeed!
I'd really rather have AK-74 or 103 in 5.45MM over any .223. Hell, even a 20" gas-piston .223 would be better than the M16, and would be WORLDS better than the diminutive M4.
6.8MM SPC or 6.5MM MPC (from SSK) would be better than .223 as well. The 6.5MM Grendel will only stay supersonic beyond 1,000 yards with the 123-grain Lapua Scenar of the same caliber, and you'd need a longer-than-typical barrel to get the necessary velocity to do so. Still, it's far better at longer ranges than the .223.
Rather SLY of HK to make it look the same as an m4 for increased acceptance. lol
The 416 good weapon BUT it still has that stupid pull back bolt like the m16 which will interfer with a cheek pad for good optics.
The other thing is, it is chambered in 223 the military needs more knock down power, to shoot through cars & brush without complete failures like with the 223.
My vote: an ACR in 6.8 or 6.5 - 6.5 will literaly stay supersonic past 1000 yards yet has low recoil & superb accuracy.
