An example of the issue described at length at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2049659 that causes MacBook Pros CTO with the Seagate 7200rpm 500GB ST9500420ASG hard disk drive to make clicking and LOUD beeping noises, which are associated with a momentary system-wide freeze as seen in the video. Very disturbing.

  • plz tell me what game that is

  • Halo: Combat Evolved

  • hey, did you solve this problem with the new upgrade?

  • So far so good. No beeps, no brief pauses - just the odd 30 sec beach balls which is presumably something else Apple has yet to fix!

  • If believe that's when it _should_ happen. This "issue" is that it happens frequently and inappropriately while the computer is active and at rest on a solid surface.

  • What game is this?

  • Halo Combat Evolved, UB for Mac

  • I recommend getting the 5400rpm drive, this issue with Apple's current choice in 7200rpm drives is very noticeable and gets to be incredibly annoying. Also, it is not likely to be fixed soon because even after 3 phone calls to Apple and countless online discussions they are not taking this issue seriously (during 2 of the 3 phone calls I was told that this is normal drive operation...*sigh*). I'm currently sending in my new MBP for a replacement with a 5400rpm drive.

  • why seagate fails

    WD FTW

  • i have the same problem, same beep, happenning randomly on a clevo w860cu oO

  • @superpowter77 Apple's policy is that if there is even ONE defective sector, replace the drive. They do not tolerate bad or questionable hard drives: their policy is to replace them if they are bad, period. Apple is REALLY GOOD a out this!

  • Wen you SeaGate, Seagate's CEO helps you watch porn then kills your Hard Drive.

  • i've had a 500 gig seagate momentus 5400.6 fail on me for the last time. this time it went belly up and i was unable to get anything. So i had to make a decision, smash it or send it back for the 2nd time.. well. i smashed it with a hammer i learned my lesson. im sticking with WD i have 3 WD black drives 2 scoprios and 1 caviar black that work perfectly and seagate's "ceritifed" repair drives are as crappy as the serviceable used part deskstars get a WD you will be much happier.

  • just disable the SMS (Sudden motion sensor)

    open terminal and type:

    sudo pmset -a sms 0

  • woot you playing anyway? ^^

  • ? beach balls?
