  • Is that hook the smallest one?

  • @apictureofruit No it's not the smallest. I think the smallest one that could easily be found is 0.70mm/0.75mm

  • Does the tips come unraveled after rounding?

  • @chocodoll73 They should not but if they do all you need to do is get out crochet hook again :)

  • great demo! i am 10 months into my journey , all have locked up except for this one stubborn piece right in the front of my head. I am gonna try this minus the crochet hook. My question .... am i back combimg on dry or wet hair? thanks in advance!

  • @shoo4eva Your most welcome!!!! You would want to do this on dry hair.

  • This is a great video...although I've had loc's for years I find the understanding in you demonstrations helpful for the up keep of my current loc's <3

  • Let me ask u this: are you free forming? I love how u do your curls on unretwisted hair. Alos if u do retwist how long do u wait? I decided to free form and I love it!

  • Thank you for the info!!!!!!!!! Be blessed. lol

  • haha....stab it stab it a few times good vid

  • Hey Shawnta,

Very informational vid. I just recently did my sister's hair with the back combing/two strand twist method. She really likes it. Keep the vids comin ;)

btw is that a B-more accent that I hear lol

  • Hi Shawnta!

I had my locks for 4 years, and had them started and maintained via crochet, and only crochet.

Recently I combed about half of them out.

I did loose A LOT of hair, but I have naturally thick hair and there was enough hair left over to make me pretty happy. I didn't feel like i was bald hah.

SO if you do this method, you can save some hair, as long as your don't have a naturally thin hair. :)

  • I'm so happy to see you reviewing this technique. I discovered it a couple months back and the process alone helped me make my decision to get locs, at long last. Since I'm of mixed background, my african-asain hair texture makes for sad dreads due to the flyaways and frizz. I've found this method the best for hard-to-lock hair and with a little practice, your locks look mature and touching up roots is simple. I use a 0.75 mm hook while my hubby prefers 1.5 mm and yes, lots of jabbed thumbs.
