  • Interesting how 'human rights' has become what Post-Marxists caII a 'empty-signifier', where unmet demands are increasingIy organizing around that 'meta-demand' that has the power to transform into an expIosive popuIist movement.

  • In Brazil, people in University give a lot of credit to Harvey`s ideas. In fact, I admire his work, at least the pyart I read. I want to discuss this conference with my students here at Federal University of Goias, but they don't understanding english and might find my translation a little boring. Keep on the good job Professor David Harvey!

  • @busybuzzbuzz What Harvey is saying is that Capitalism has solved the problem of labour being "too powerful" i.e. of workers demanding a better workplace and salary, etc. He is not a capitalist himself, but rather a Marxist.

  • @busybuzzbuzz He is saying the opposite, I think. The "problem" of labor is that organized workers can demand a fair share of the value that they generate. Without that problem, the value that might have been claimed by those workers is profit.
