pretty smooth, nice armature.
I built one from helping hands tools too. He's 13 inches tall. Possibly too big but it was my first. I found using a dremel and a drill I can lathe the ends of the big metal bar of helping hands tool to make a ball.

i got it from my university, i think the tutors built it by hand, you can order the pieces from about on the internet i think.:)
