Entrelac - on straight needles

Entrelac is when you knit squares in multiple directions.
First you make a row of triangles, then you pick up sts along the sides, work half squares at each side and full squares in the middle. If each square should be i.e 5 sts wide, then you cast on 5 x the number of triangles to start with.

@dragondude04 i don't know about better, this video is pretty helpful for me, but knittingdaily (one word) has a small tutorial on how to do entrelac. they are speaking in english... hope that helps

Is there a written pattern you use for this? I've looked at a lot of patterns and videos and this one is a little different.
If I understand what you're doing correctly, on the wrong side you're slipping the first stitch purl-wise? But sometimes you purl in the back and then the front as an increase to make up for purling two together?
