Kazimierz Braun's one-woman play (in English) HELENA, THE EMIGRANT QUEEN
with Nina Polan (Janina Katelbach) as Helena Modzejewska HELENA concerns the great Polish-American stage star of the latter part of the 19th Century, Helena Modzejewska (- Helena Modjeska, in the USA). The play takes place in Anaheim,CA , as she is about to leave her estate, the only home she ever had, the stage, and public life. It is a retrospective featuring her triumphs and defeats, her private life, in an extraordinary tour-de-force which deals simultaneously with Polish history of the times in which she was actively involved. Since she died 4 years later, one might say , this departure was also the end of her life.
