Amen about Gladys Knight at age 7! BTW, Ted Mack's Amateur Hour's forerunner was on radio - Major Bowes' Amateur Hour (some of the Loony Tunes of the '30s spoofed the show ["I Love to Singa", for example], which was more like the later "Gong Show" on TV - even though it produced Frank Sinatra as a winner. And yes, these shows were forerunners of Star Search, American Idol, etc.
