I recently bought this game again. It's been years since I've played it last when I rented it, and I liked it. It's the best Spryo game out of them all. Then again, only this and the 3rd game are good. The others are pretty bad. Either way, this video shows the final boss of the first one. And even though it looks really easy it can be a tad tricky. Oh, and yes, I already beat him before I recorded it, hence the 14,000 gem count + 80 dragons.

You start by chasing down two of those thiefs with the keys. I'm not entirely sure if you need to actually chase both of them, but I was too lazy to check while recording so I just went for both. They're not too hard to catch. Once you go after Gnasty, he runs away (coward). You now have to chase him over a pretty narrow path. If you're fast enough, you can get it on the first try by flaming him as soon as he stops. If you're too slow, he'll run away before you get to him and you'll end up going in a circle again.

The final part is the trickest. It's the only actual challenging part. You must once again chase after him, by jumping from platform to platform over lava. The thing that may catch you off guard is that all the platforms slowly go inside the walls. You must make it up to Gnasty fast enough or else you die, and must start from the beginning. The best method, in my opinion, is to Glide and drop down with Triangle as soon as its safe to. If you can drop down with the dash button, do that instead. Either way, once you make it up to him, flame him and the fight is over.

If you're wondering what happens when you beat him, you get a cinema scene (as in the video), and then the credits. However, as soon as the credits are over you are dropped back in Gnasty's world with one last sealed dragon in front of you. The dragon explains that there is a secret level that can be reached once you get 100%, as in releasing all the sealed dragons, getting EVERY SINGLE GEM (12,000 total), and all the dragon eggs. once you get 100% of the game, the last dragon mouth in that world opens up and you can play the secret level. Completing the secret level gives you 2000 more gems, which gives you 14,000 total, as well as the complete ending along with 120% completion.

Anyway, if you haven't played this game I'd highly suggest trying it. It's a rather fun platformer, and although it's old, it was a great game for its time. Don't waste your money on the crap Spyro games that come out now, they aren't made by Insomniac now, so Spyro will never be this good. Generally, it's not a hard game either. But I enjoyed it because it wasn't a game that made you do all these tedius garbage tasks that is more frustrating than fun.

  • Gnasty Gnorc did not seem like much of a villain.

  • Does anyone here think Spyro would make a good cartoon show?

  • First videogame I ever played in my life. Damn :')

  • 25 years later... I am currently playing Playstation 6 and there is still no Spyro The Dragon on Playstation store in Europe (facepalm)

  • Okay I see that in your description it says This game and Year of the Dragon are the only good Spyro games, while the rest are pretty bad. Why do you hate Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage a.k.a Gateway to Glimmer, it was a great game, it was better than the first one but in my opinion the third one is better. I do not think you have played Spyro 2. Spyro Year of the Dragon>Spyro Ripto's Rage>Spyro the Dragon the rest are so shitty I wouldn't call them a Spyro game

  • i remember the first time i went against him. he was my first boss. my blood was pumping so fast.

  • I loved these games when I was a kid and even throughout my life have played them repeatedly XD completing them numerous time. They never seemed to get old! It's a shame Imsomniac never continued the series and that it was taken over by people who made the series awful but then again they gave me Ratchet and Clank and I love that series!

  • i can't beat him he runs of before i can flame him

  • Beatiful game.. Remember to me when I was child :')

  • I prefer to see this fight as far more symbolic than a challenge.

Gnasty Gnorc is a bully. Simple as.

But when you stand up to bullies, they run away, and suddenly don't seem as scary any more.

  • @SuperCartiel Unsure, I never really watched any of the animated shows they made, mostly the live action ones, like Mystic Knights, VR Troopers, and Big Bad Beetle Borgs. The only animated Saban show I know they were involved with was the 1st and 2nd season of Dragonball Z.

  • @CyberLance26 He just wants pie.
