On the eve of Remembrance Day, Constable Lyndon Slewidge performs the country's national anthem in front of a capacity crowd at Scotia Bank Place in a match between Montreal and Ottawa. A tearful moment indeed.

Ottawa's considered a bilingual city. If you heard earlier with the P.A. announcer, he introduced Slewidge also in French as well.

  • Additionally, Ottawa is also blessed with one of the etter play by play men in the pro sporting world, the fine Dean Brown

  • @kingslice75

His only equal in the U.S. is Wayne Messmer in Chicago, and he's only singing for the AHL's Chicago Wolves right now.

I agree, we don't need the stylin'. What Jose Feliciano started that October day in 1968....

He is singing the official bilingual version, that's why he's singing in French in the middle.

  • He's magnificent.

Best anthem rendition I've ever heard.

  • Wow!

Why can't we get people to sing the U.S. Anthem like that? It always has to be some overexposed celebrity who tries to put their "spin" on the anthem and winds up butchering it beyond recognition.

Why does he sing in French in the middle?

  • Cheers!

  • Like Rollie, I'm American but this is the best singing of any national anthem anywhere in the world. I saw HNIC in November and this for the first time. Here I have been a hockey fan for 45 years and never heard of him. This guy has to be a national treasure. The best we yanks south of the border ever had to compare him with was Kate Smith singing "God Bless America" and that paled in comparison to this guy. Zaq, I think I'll watch this pre-game now on. Allez Les Ailes Rouge! Go Red Wings!

  • Hey! I was at the game on 11/20/2008 and the one on 01/17/2009! What an atmosphere at ScotiaBank Place in Ottawa, thanks no less to the 10 000+ Habs fans present at each game!

  • I watch this video before I watch any hockey game.
