Broward County Planning Council, 2010-02-25, Joe Kessel speaking on the Diplomat LAC proposal for Hallandale Beach (FL). A majority of residents of Hallandale Beach and southern Hollywood are firmly against the proposal, which, among other things, would include building four or five 25-30 story condo towers in a largely single-family and low-rise apt. neighborhood located on the perimeter of the Diplomat Golf Course, in a part of Broward County that already has some of the worst traffic gridlock in the state. To combat citizen opposition, the golf course owners have employed teams of highly-paid lawyers, lobbyists and PR squads to get their way, along with the cooperation of Hallandale Beach City Hall, which supported the proposal, and which didn't put the entire plan on the city's own website for citizens to review until 28 hours before the city's first vote in mid-Decemberm despite motions to put it on weeks earlier. Cronies of Hallandale Beach City Hall were eager to make excuses for the unfair and one-sided process and sought to minimize the loss in Quality-of-Life for area residents. Such a City Hall crony is local realtor Joe Kessel.
