The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has declared the Vermont Yankee reactor "safe" despite numerous tritium leaks and other problems. The NRC will likely issue a license extension for the plant the week of March 14, 2011 even though the State of Vermont has opted to close the plant when the current license expires in March 2012. Join Beyond Nuclear and New England groups and activists in opposing this imposed license extension!

  • Sierra club is a bunch of idiots. All they do is try to put hard working Americans out of work. How are these hippies going to run there hair dryers when all the power plants are closed?

  • If anyone's curious about context, the photos:

    1) Transformer explosion, November 2010, no injuries or dead, no release of radiation

    2) Cooling tower collapse, September 2007, no injuries or dead, no release of radiation, took VY

    3) Also the 2007 collapse.

It should be noted that the cooling towers don't touch irradiated water. At all. It goes without saying that the transformers are unrelated to the core, except that the core must be shut down for repairs when a transformer goes.

  • Why would you want to shut down the only reason Vermont has air as clean as it is?
