  • I raced @ this track in the 70's, trailered my chevelle from Williston ND to Glendive.

  • @fastrat37 What color was your Chevelle and what did it have in it? There are more old 8mm movies of races held there in the 60's and 70's----non of them on You Tube yet----but would be interesting if you and your Chevelle are in any of them. Let me know and I'll see what I can find---if you're interested.

  • cool vid must be from late 69 or 70 saw a 70 duster

  • @HADDICKS

You could be right---I belive the strip was closed down in the early 70's to make way for some sort of development----which, by the way, I don't think ever happened. Maybe one of the "old timers" from the Glendive area could give a little history of the strip. Glad you liked the movie.

  • Definitely a cryin' shame losin' this track.Cars came from ND,SD,Wy.,and Canada[Queen City Performance?] Almost always had a great turnout, fans and racers.Nothing like side steppin' the clutch at six grand-the 1-2 shift comes real quick with 5:13's.

  • Thanks for sharing this-I'd love to see more myself.Any of these cars sound familiar?

Badlands Meanie[black vega wagon] Pied Piper[VW?body] King Rat [BB chevy camaro]From Brothers B/A Fred Anderson ran numerous dragsters including the Pre War Funnycar[altered] and Obsession[BB Chevy A/Altered] Leadfoot[BB late 50's Vette] Kraft Brothers dragsters,Clint Salee modified production Harold Wilcockson [of the ice cream company]-beautiful 70 Chevelle SS stocker[A/S?] A lot of cool cars then.

  • I think the last race to be held at hustlers dragway was in September,1981.The last race sceduled was in May,1982.But it rained out and Hustlers leased the track from the county and the lease was up and the dumb county would not renew the lease and therefore no more dragraces. One more thing taken away. I do know that when there were drag races in Glendive, there was alot of money coming in to our town. And now all there is as far as the track goes is memories.Thank you for the old videos!

  • I think it was closed in the late '70s. I left Glendive in early '78, and the track was still in operation, then (through the '77 season.). Somewhere around here, I have a flier from '73 or '74 that lists track records, payouts and who to contact for information. As I recall, the flier lists the track speed record at 196+. Hard to believe that track would hold that speed! NHRA's 1975 Fall Nationals Stock winner (?Grieve) raced at Hustlers' in his Free Spirit Buick GS.

  • @MrPLW My '68 Chevelle was maroon with a yellow flamed paint job on the front end and a big Mopar style hood scoop. I would absolutely love it if you could post more videos of the races. My friend also raced a blue '67 GTO w/Hurst wheels on it. Another friend had a red '66 Chevelle Malibu that we raced there. I think we raced there until '78 or '79.

  • Drag Strip in Glendive was a former airport runway. Not sure when it closed but it was probably the latter 70's as I can remember running my car there around '76 or '77 while home from college. If you Google Earth to Glendive, you can still see the outline of the strip on the far north side of Glendive, sandwiched between the Yellowstone River and the water treatment ponds. Hated to see it closed for "development" as the monthly races brought a lot of fans and commerce to Glendive.
