I wrote this poem when I was 16. I really like this poem, as it is more personal. The picture of the daisies was taken at the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland, July 2005. There was just this small bunch of flowers randomly growing out of the rocks and I had to take a picture of them. I hope you enjoy. =)

Perfection's Tears

Nobody's perfect,
but she tries.
They can't see things
through her eyes.
No matter what
she mustn't fail,
for then the truth
might be unveiled.
On the outside
she's just like the rest,
but underneath the surface
she needs to be the best.
All of her problems
she has to hide,
they can't know
she's blemished inside.
This routine is
wearing her down,
but always a smile-
never a frown.
She knows her behavior
is not right,
but it's something inside
she just can't fight.

  • Another great poem, but there's one thing I don't understand: "she's just like the rest but underneath the surface she needs to be the best" contradicts the idea of a person, who tries to be the best and acts like it, but is torn from inside. Or did I get it wrong?

  • Thank you! The lines, "On the outside she's just like the rest, but underneath the surface she needs to be the best." refers more to how everyone else sees her as having nothing wrong with her. They don't notice her inner struggle to be perfect. I hope that makes sense.. =)

  • Very touching, it's hard sometimes to wear that smile all the time.

  • Thank you. Yes wearing a smile as a mask can eat away at your soul little by little.. writing this poem was my first attempt to take off my mask and let my true self shine through. =)

  • daisies are my favorite flowers!! very cute poem

  • Daisies are such pretty flowers, when I saw these growing out of nowhere in the middle of the rocks I had to take a picture. =)

  • Wow ,

  • Ah, I see, yeah, that makes sense indeed :)

  • I hope that she found the strength that comes in wisdom's shadow to fight what's inside.

Another very powerful poem, 420². I can totally see why it was composed at sixteen.
