Chretien and Martin gave us a surplus, Harper gave us a deficit.

What's that about the Liberals/NDP being the spending parties anyways? No sane Liberal leader would spend $16 billion on fighter jets.

  • @Aetheilas uuuuuuuuuuuuu the liberals wanted the avro arrow and there the ones who gave us the f-18's, plus harper ran the country threw a ressesion they ran the country while times where good. Please go educate yourself please.

  • @Aetheilas exactly, the conservative parades as the party of "fiscal responsibility" and "low taxes" when it isn't true, if i can remember correctly, who was it that brought in the GST again?

  • @oodnac First of all, the PM is not the leader of the federal party with the most MPs. The PM, constitutionally, can be any member of the House or Senate who can maintain the confidence of the House of Commons. The leader of the party with the most seats is simply the obvious choice to maintain confidence. For example, in 1985 the Ontario Liberals formed the government with 48 seats compared to the PC 52, because they were better able to maintain the support of the NDP.
