To be effective, the OEM filter is 15 KHz BW at -6dB, not 40 KHz. It rolls off fast. By 40 KHz, the response is virtually nonexistent. The only high IF rig I've seen that has a wide bandwidth output is the TS850. The output of the 1st mixer (73.05 MHz) is tapped /ahead/ of the roofing filter, and mixed down to 8.83 MHz for the noise blanker. They also feed the IF OUT jack. Response is as wide as the filter on the rig's frontend (several hundred KHz).

The bandwidth available to a panadapter connected to the TS-2000 is limited by the roofing filter bandwidth (around +/- 10 KHz or so). This makes it not worth the effort if you want to see more spectrum than that.

My first time new show as a licensed HAM. You guys do a great show!! I heard some guys talking on 3.770 that someone had just left the QSO (I assume George) to edit a new Amateurlogic show. I ran to the site to see nothing posted. Came back today and lo and behold EP 29. Great show

"In this long awaited episode we show you how to add an IF Output to the Kenwood TS-2000 for use with a SDR."
The design of the TS2000 limits the bandwidth to about ±15 KHz at best, due to a roofing filter. My TS850 has a roofing filter in the first IF (70 MHz) BUT, the IF output taps ahead of it, and is mixed down to 8.83 MHz. Bandwidth is limited only by the width of the frontend filter. I could sweep several hundred KHz, were it not for the tiny 3" CRT on my Heath SB-610.
Well it's down a bit at the edges, but I get at least 40KHz of usable bandwidth. Plenty worth the effort to me.
