This video shows how to modify an excavator's track frame for the purpose of utilizing a non oem idler when replacing an existing idler which is worn out. The purpose of this video is to demonstrate what can be done if it is difficult to acquire the original manufacturer's idler or if the idler needed is no longer produced. We show that modifying the track frame to accept a different mounting, but same size idler, is possible and what is required to accomplish this task.
The excavator shown in this video is a HALLA HE130-LCE. This is a Korean machine made by a company that no longer exists. Finding parts for this particular excavator, depending on which parts are needed, can be difficult. The OEM idler was available overseas, but it would have taken about a month to get it. We utilize two HALLA HE130-LCEs in our fleet which are identical and well suited for the various types of work we do. Due to a high operations tempo, we could not wait a month, nor did we want to, for the OEM idler to arrive. We researched idlers that were used in similar machines and found one that was the correct width and diameter, but the mount was slightly different (bigger). This idler would work perfectly and was immediately available, but would require modifications be made to the excavator's track frame. We acquired this part and began the process of modifications in order to allow the idler to fit and function properly. This four part video series demonstrates how this is done.
