Portamento and riser effects are commonly used in music production to transition between parts of a track. For example from a verse to the bridge or from a pre-chorus to the hook. In this tutorial music producers Ross Lara and Will Broussard (Terror Dactel) share how to record and mix a riser effect from scratch using Logic Pro.
To capture the base sound for the riser effect they both head to Ross's garage in Breckenridge, Colorado to sample two Yamaha snow mobiles at high RPMs. The goal is to record engine rev up's using a stereo pair of microphones featuring the Audio-Technica 4033 and Audio-Technica 4040 recording into the Zoom H4 portable digital recorder. The recorded samples are then imported into Logic Pro, edited and the final custom riser build up is designed for use in their latest pop track titled "Electric Love". They share valuable mic placement and sound design tips along the way and although the mixing is realized using Logic Pro it's important to note that these concepts carry over to all other music production software.

@thegdfella4500 Hi, thanks for your feedback. True we don't all have snowmobiles but the concept presented in the video is universal: work with what you have. The action of recording "found sounds" in the field can be very useful in your productions. That aside we hope the sound design techniques discussed were insightful. Thanks for watching!

Fantastic tutorial. Any chance you would create one showing how to make a riser for film trailers? They're generally 8 bars or longer with a huge Impact at the end of it.
