So, how many people are actually employed in the movie industry? Not that many. 374,000 in 2010 -- and that includes both full and part time workers. And that's really not much different from the 392,000 in 1998"

"Congressional Research Service Shows Hollywood Is Thriving" TechDirt
First off, despite the industry's regular attempt to play up its contribution to GDP and employment, the report found that the combined GDP contribution of both the "motion picture and sound recording" industries was a whopping 0.4% in 2009. Back in 1995... it was also 0.4%.

"(1) in the case that the counterfeit good has similar quality to the original, consumers have extra disposable income from purchasing a less expensive good, and (2) the extra disposable income goes back to the U.S. economy, as consumers can spend it on other goods and services."
“effects of piracy within the United States are mainly redistributions within the economy for other purposes and that they should not be considered as a loss to the overall economy.”

"Does Internet Piracy Really Hurt the Economy?" Big Think:
"The “core copyright industries” have, unsurprisingly, shed some jobs over the past few years, but again, compared with the rest of the economy, employment seems to have held relatively stable at a time when you might expect cash-strapped consumers to be turning to piracy to save money."

You guys are doing FINE. Stop being assholes! God forbid the consumer get empowered for a change.

But wait, wasn't Avatar the highest-grossing film of all time?
Doesn't Hollywood STILL sell put out blockbusters in theaters regularly? Don't a lot of people STILL watch shows on TV? What's the point of bitching and crying about 'piracy'? It's just greed, pure greed. Is the entertainment industry REALLY 'losing' all that much?? Was the record industry REALLY "losing" that much in profits when Napster came along?
-
So-called "piracy" is the wave of the future! It's inevitable. You're not gonna stop it, so why try? INNOVATE and figure out better ways to increase your revenues from 'lost' profits. Don't waste money lobbying and suing people, for christ sake. And the amount of profit or revenues "lost" are so much less than these assholes claim. Besides, the "lost" profits aren't actually COSTS that the companies themselves spend but UNREALIZED PROFITS. "Potential" profits that didn't happen

If I buy something, it's MY property from then on, right? Why SHOULDN'T I be allowed to give it away to whomever I want? Just b/c it's online, and I reproduce multiple copies, I'm a "criminal" or "thief"? That's just playing semantics...
God forbid the LITTLE guy get a little power, not just these big media conglomerates, acting as gatekeepers. If you're THAT AFRAID of a few middle-class folks here and there downloading a movie or 2, you need to reorder your priorities and innovate better.

@JKOK6 Don't think it's that. I took all the dislikes as people disliking this horrible bill, not me.
