I'm thinking of doing the same thing. A wider bucket and a quicker way to dump off the diggings would make it go a hell of a lot faster.

This skidsteer is what I have to dig with so that is what I used. I don't have to pay for my time and renting something else would have meant more out of pocket cost.
my total out of pocket cost was $100 for diesel and $20 for motor oil.
I sure you probable do but I don't think I know of any excavators around here that will come out and dig a basement for less than $120.

@Scoootter87 It took about 35 hrs of digging. It's alot of time but for only 30 gallons of diesel fuel I saved a bunch of excavating cost.
