I exercise four times a week, eat better than everyone i know, have goals, ect. I was still depressed. I went through 8 sessions with a therapist, 8 group sessions. Still depressed. I was prescribed Lexapro. No longer depressed. Currently: off Lexapro and still no longer depressed.

From my experience, you have to be truthful to what it is making you unhappy...and don't make excuses, just accept, then start to adjust and change...In the meantime you will feel envy around happy people ( occassionally)...the main thing is to surround yourself with sympathetic people - not people who berate you for feeling low. Only then can you 'perk-up'

I am worse without my antidepressants. I took Effexor XR for 12 years. Now, I cannot afford it, so I have to take whatever antidepressants I can afford now. My symptoms without them are worse back pain, crying all the time like just from looking at the carpet. I do agree antidepressants are a quick fix for situations we do not work through, but if that is what you have, you take them. It's better than a chapped face everyday.

I'm only 19 and I want to not have to take meds rest of my life. Should I go to a psychologist instead of a psychiatrist?
Also the add meds make me not hungry or tired which i think is making me more depressed what do you think?

You are the best oh my gosh finally someone who understands. You are a very smart Dr. and care ONLY about the cure and not the treatment. About what you said when people who are on a medication for a long time are afraid they will become more depressed if they stop, it is true. I tried it once i spent 3 months weaning off wellbutrin and i was only on it for 5 months and I was extremely depressed. I tried to go a whole month without the wellbutrin and trust me I was worse plz help!!!

@furtherfarthest1 My diagnosis was Bipolar 2 as well, and I was a good boy and did what my Psych told me and I never got well. After reading Anatomy of an Epidemic and taking eight months to withdraw, I am happier and healthier than I been in years. Thank you, John Breeding for your videos!

Prozac caused me a nervous breakdown and made me feel homocidal. When I went off it I felt better.Other antidepressants caused horrible side effects.
