MPD Ltd were an Australian band formed in 1965, who were wildly popular in their day, but only lasted around 18 months. They consisted of Mike Brady (lead vocals, guitar) Pete Watson (bass) and Danny Finley (drums). The name came from taking the first letter of each of their first names.

This single released in 1965 was a cover of Johnny Burnette's 'Little Boy Sad'. It was their first single and their biggest hit. They continued to have varying success until they broke up in 1966. Their demise was not helped by a trip to England to seek fame and fortune and personal tensions in the band towards the end.

Mike Brady went on to be a successful songwriter and creator of advertising jingles. He wrote the Australian Football anthem, 'Up There Cazaly', one of the biggest Australian singles of all time. Sadly, Pete Watson's health deteriorated and he died in 1972. Danny Finley continued in the music business variously as a musician, manager and executive.

There is no video of this song (or any other MPD Ltd songs?), so I have done my own video featuring images of the band.

  • @TheFinalContact

Are there any film clips of the band available?

  • Thanks for the comments. And barnfresh, I hope that someone can find and post some footage of the band. They would have performed on tv for sure, but whether such tapes still exist is anyone's guess. If anyone has any, please post! Thanks.

  • I'm Mike's son and this is definitely his voice.

  • Another fantastic Aussiband. I´m impressed. Unfortunately dominated band from the United Kingdom and the U.S. the music scene during the 60s. Bands from Australia were very rare. Thank God for Youtube! Today it´s possible to listen to wonderful unknown bands from the 60s. Check up, for example, THE ZETTLERS and their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". Unbelievable.

Was Danny Finley drunk? He couldn't be suggesting that Mike mimed to Danny's vocals when they played live,as they did many times.Someone would have noticed.

Danny also managed, and married Colleen Hewett-lucky dog.

  • "Someday Bay-bay-a-yay .. " .. the remaining song-line requires no further elaboration. What a song ....

  • One of my favs from 65... btw I'm 59..

  • Just listening to an interview at the moment with Danny Finley and he was saying that he was the singer of this song and Mike Brady just mimed it ? Brady found the song and did the arranging. Apparently there has been a lot of tension between the two of them over Danny Finley admitting that he was the real singer.Danny Finley went on to manage Johnny Farnham for some time.

  • very sauve mike
