Every year, around the holiday season, Roy Shire would bring in Terrible Ted, the live wrestling bear, to work a show at the San Francisco Cow Palace. I don't remember him putting a cage around the ring, but I do remember Ted's handler had a leash on him. After the match, the bear would get a big bottle of root beer!
