This demonstration is of a Shimano Citica 201E (Left handed model). I take you through a few simple steps of taking off the braking cover, and cleaning the exterior and interior parts of the reel. I hope this helps you keep your equipment clean and in tip-top shape. Here's the items you'll need:

Isopropyl Alcohol
Rag
Bantam Oil

Q-tips or cotton swabs

  • nice vid man

  • @maxpete28 thank you sir!

  • The for the video. Good instruction (I hate reading manuals). I have the citica and plan on using it in saltwater (inshore) to get fish out of mangroves and docks as well as fresh water. Do you think with cleaning and oiling as shown that the citica will hold up well in the salt or should I use it only for fresh water? Thx in advance for your opinion.

  • @chefdta561 The Citica can be used for both freshwater and saltwater. Just like any piece of metal, you'll need to make sure you clean the reel to avoid any saltwater damage. If you "Google" how to clean a reel after saltwater use, you'll find plenty of "how-to" articles and videos! Good luck :)

  • I have a reel that has not been used yet. It has been in the box for one year. Should I do basic lubrication before bringing it out? Or can I leave it alone and just start to fish?

  • @isaacyoung2014 To be honest, many reels sit on the shelves for a year or two because there is always a time delay between manufacturing and distributing. You could check it just to make sure, but it's probably ready to go fishing if it is still new in the box!

  • when and how exactly would you grease a baitcaster ?

    thanks

  • @woodsboy22 Moving parts and water never mix, no matter what the directions say. Bearings need oil and gears need grease. Open it up and check. Water will eventually rust the internal parts, but if it's dry and everything looks good, then keep on fishing!

  • If it is submerged in fresh water, is it necessary to open it up and clean it? Cause I have had my spinning reel fall in a pond every now and then. I thought it was only saltwater that made it so it had to be completely opened up?

  • @pizzacrustcrumbs98 Basic cleaning and oiling should be done at least once a year, but more if the reel is submerged in water. If you're hard on your equipment, every few months coudl be an option too. It just depends on how much you fish and what kind of weather you fish in. Keep it clean and oiled and you'll be good to go for years.
