Western dinning with a Japanese twist....back home it's Bob's Big Boy here its a steak house with bread on the side. No bun!

Apparently the Bobs Big Boy or Big Boy back home is floundering and the fiberglass statues are going up for auction or perhaps still the targets of fraternity jokes.. Regardless the service was good and the food was prepared perfectly. As is the Japanese way they have taken the burger house and made it a steak house. Fried chicken with steak, hamburg steak, surf and turf (steak and fried giant shrimp)... all with a sizzling platter and some veggies and potatoes. A soup bar and a drink bar all you can plunder. Desserts and beer with an ashtray to boot. Now the portions are smaller but I was full when I left and the bill was about 2800 yen that's 28 bucks in the states.

  • Wow looks really good and the prices seem pretty reasonable. Since it's western style restaurant did they have more western beers or were they pretty much the local brands?

  • @MarionetteKazuko Just Japanese beer on the menu.

  • beer after a coffee? you really hate your blood vessels, don't you?:P but the food looks awesome, was that bbq sauce or gravy on the side of those buns?

  • @Ainar86 I ride a bike at about 18 MPH two hours a day up hills and through traffic. I am sure my blood is cleaned out after that each day or I will keel over at 20mph going down a hill with a smile:)

  • Thanks. Hope there's a hot fudge sundae on that menu.

  • Yes there is but its small so order two!

  • @RetroToledo In Japan, it's great!

  • @SkullOfYorick They still sell those pretty close to there I am (Haagen-Dazs). I've seen a Cold Stone before, but there use to be a Krispy Kreme store I use to go to just to watch the donuts being made (it closed up and is now a Del Taco).

  • @RetroToledo Indeed. I also recently saw a Cold Stone Creamery, and Krispy Kreme is becoming more popular. I haven't seen a Häagen-Dazs for ages, though.

  • @SkullOfYorick I see they still have Shakey's over there. It's nice at least that some old American chains live on over there like Mister Donut and Lawson's (they originated here in Ohio).

  • @khatchad Frisch's isn't too bad.

  • Big Boy is awesome! Good memories. There is, or used to be, one at Narita Airport. Also, it's funny just how many American businesses seem to do better in Japan, e.g. 7-Eleven and Mister Donut. Wendy's was the opposite though: all its Japanese restaurants closed down last year.

  • you went to Narimasu? I used to live there.

There are Sizzlers in Japan too, I like Sizzlers.

Big Boys are arranged like Japanese flavour but Sizzlers in Japan tastes like USA.

Have you tried Mow Mow House in Ikebukuro?

It's a sukiyaki / shabu-shabu all you can eat restraunt. It's very cheap.

  • wow. you can smoke in the restaurant?

  • are u kidding me??? is that the size of food u guys get at that restaurant?? that's awesome!! @ 4:25+
