I love this. Just like I love Gould's - it's fresh and great conterpoint. Preconceived notions be damned. Music lives. If you think any great artist, whether Mozart, Beethoven, etc., who were both composers AND performers would play the same piece of music the same way just because there's only one published version of it means you don't know what creativity is and/or are not a CREATIVE artist yourself. Be grateful, not hateful.
This constant rushing and slowing down and doing something "sprecial" in every bar is really irritating, too much pedal in my opinion and all the sixteenth passages sound very clumsy. Not impressed at all.
I would like to say I enjoyed this, because I admire Hélène Grimaud. But she mangles the tempo, and adds so much rubato (especially in the second movement) that Mozart's lucidity is obscured by the pianist. I did not hear a profound work, I heard Ms Grimaud saying I am different.
Apparently some people just aren't hip enough to appreciate this freaky Mozart mash-up. All it really needs is more cowbells!

On reflection I think her playing of the second movement is exquisite. I stiill maintain my reservations for the first movement

Beautiful. She is one of the few musicians who can bring the tired old music alive, and grab your heart in her bear hand.
Her control of the dynamics is unbelievable. i love this performance better than the album. Thank you for posting this.

My favourity Mozart sonata. Very differently played, but impossible to not just love the music for its own sake. Lovely!
