Mazda's SKYACTIV-DRIVE is based on a step automatic transmission and also incorporates the best features of all transmission types. Step automatic transmissions enable smooth take-offs and gear changes, and are the world's most common type of automatic transmission. A key feature of the SKYACTIV-DRIVE is its direct shift-feel, which is comparable to a manual transmission. It was achieved by maximizing the lock-up range.
