This week Motorola's Droid Bionic finally arrived in the United States after being announced at CES 2011. It costs $300 right now unless you order it from Amazon, then it's $200 which is a better price. Either way you are getting pretty much an LTE version of the Droid X with a 1GHz processor, Gingerbread, and 32GB of total storage.
If you want a Verizon LTE phone you right now can only pick one up without having any sort of QWERTY keyboard. For many people that will be fine, but some people would prefer to have a keyboard. And that's where the rumored Samsung Stratosphere comes into place. It's an LTE phone but with a slide out QWERTY keyboard along with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, Gingerbread and an 8MP camera.
All of these LTE phones are all ending up very expensive. You might want a much cheaper Android smartphone. Maybe you are getting your first smartphone, maybe you don't have a whole lot of extra money to spend on a phone. Either way there is the new Huawei Impulse 4G coming to AT&T's HSPA+ network on the 18th for just $30 on a two year contract. It has a 3.8-inch WVGA display, Froyo, and an 800MHz processor.
Back to high end smartphones, at Google I/O 2011 Google announce Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. ICS is supposed to combine both the Honeycomb for tablets and the Gingerbread for smartphones. And now according to Eric Schmidt we'll be seeing this new operating system in October or November. Probably on October 19th to the 21st during AsiaD.
Samsung announced the Galaxy Note last week at IFA 2011. It was a very large very high end smartphone. It's the one with a 1280x800 Super AMOLED Plus display that's 5.3-inches big. Anyways it has been benchmarked with Quadrand Standard and it scored a little better than the Galaxy S II at 3624. It might arrive in the UK in 2012 although the pricing unlocked might be over $1000.
HP announced the DM1 notebooks. They are pretty much low end ultrabooks or high end netbooks. They start at $400 and $600 and will offer either AMD Fusion processors or Intel Core i3 processors and will be arriving soon.
The iPhone 5 is going to probably arrive very soon. And it looks like now we have a picture taken with the camera on the iPhone 5. The pictures taken were taken from a phone with an 8MP camera. Although the EXIF data says it's an iPhone 4 it's probably just called an iPhone 4 so that it was less obvious.
If you are on T-Mobile you have some pretty good Android smartphones like the HTC Sensation 4G. But soon there will be much faster phones hitting the market. And it looks like T-Mobile will be getting one of those fast phones from HTC called the HTC Ruby or the HTC Amaze 4G.
So we've already seen the Acer W4 but it wasn't working and not much was known about the device. What we did know was that it was a Windows Phone 7.5 Mango device. And it looks like this Acer W4 smartphone is at IFA 2011, and this time the phone is working.
According to BeatWeek Sprint is currently working to install signal boosting repeater hardware in at least one Apple Store. A total of five repeaters that support both CDMA and 4G on Sprint's network have been installed in that Apple store according to them. Both Verizon and AT&T already have these signal boosters in current Apple stores so those looking to pick up one of the smartphones can test out the smartphone on the network without any issues before they purchase the phone.
