Refugees will take the stage on July 4 The long-running reggae band, Colville's own Planetary Refugees, will also take the fairgrounds stage during the festival. Founding lead singer Richard Taylor has been spreading his message of peace through mostly original material, with an emphasis on "socially conscious lyrics and the addressing of human rights and environmental issues." The politically charged message is fueled by Taylor's involvement with Veteran's For Peace—the music is fueled by some of the things he witnessed while serving in Viet Nam. The Refugees' rotating cast has changed since the band was founded back in 1983 when they were called "Planetary People." Current members include Taylor, drummer David Vally; keyboardist Craig Reynolds; bassist Ramiro Vijarro; guitarist Mike Eakins and singer Eleanor Mattice. Planetary Refugees has al¬ways been a band long on the message—and danceable, upbeat music. The band, who will play from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on July 4, has appeared with artists like Jimmy Cliff, Big Mountain, Andrew Tosh, Inner Circle, Clinto Fearon and the Boogie Band, Eek-a-Mouse and Pabloe Moses. The group has transported its rock-n-rootsy reggae to festivals, barter fairs, and to bars across Washington state and Idaho. The Northwest has served as a verdant open lab where the Refugees have fine-tuned their mix of reggae and Grateful Dead-tinged rock...with influences from Motown.
A Song sung at the 1988 Barter Fair in Ferry County Washington by this well known NE Washington group based out of Stevens County. Taken with old analogue gear and VHS tapes put onto digital format via Panasonic AG 1950 Editing Deck. Fair Qaulity.

My favorite band! How I remember dancing under the stars and grooving all night long while they played songs of rejoicing. And there are the Herbivores, holding down the beat. Thanks for posting this. Great to see my friends having a good time, ah the memories...
