Despite the fact that the war should never have been waged, you can't just pull the troops out and leave a mess caused by US. What that does is leave controll of Iraq up for grabs, and places it in the hands of anti-american power mongers. That would be very very bad for the region. But I'm sure there is oil money at threat too, which may be the primary reason to try and stabilize things. Yet another reason to move away from fossil fuels. It's a mess over there thanks to US.
