Windows 8 preview on the HP slate 500, kind of works once you get the graphics drivers installed. Follow up video of the Metro Apps on HP Slate 500 is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvVJs8XwEsA

  • @bpt2010th can you shoot another video with apps working on the slate?

  • @celze20 a Video of it is just uploaded, I can't seem to put a link int eh comments but in this video details there a link to it.

  • Thanks to setthivoine, setting resolution to 1024x768 and enabling perf mode works. Metro apps work now..

  • I didn't encounter any acpi problems, I used the 32-bit image. Only the N-trig and audio driver didn't install, the MS included audio driver works fine and only single touch . HDMI should work, I was able to install the GMA driver using win7 compatibility mode, performance improves a lot with the GMA driver. The apps I think are in the 64-bit preview image but that wouldn't work on Slate as the Z540 chip is 32-bit only. You can get all the drivers for the slate from hp.com

  • android?

  • Did you dual boot? If so, how? I can not seem to partition my slate's SSD to do so.

  • like w7 more ...

  • Imma stick with windows 7...

  • Could you install ONENOTE on windows 8 preview? if so a vid would be awesome, any student who uses an iPad instead of windows 8, doesn't deserve to go uni, only reason I'm hesitating to get the slate right now is due to its thickness but digitiser + onenote = student win!

  • that is exactly what i want to do! thaks for the video

  • @bpt thanks

  • Very awesome! I was feeling rather sad with all the talk that the Slate couldn't support the new UI. Glad to see naysayers were proven wrong. Can't wait to install and give it a test run!

  • how about you make a tutorial on how to do this! please

  • Thanks bpt2010 for the clue on Intel GMA. I had to load the driver from hp (sp50504) and then have Device Manager look for the driver in the c:\swsetup folder before it installed. HDMI out works as well as brightness indicator. Still no apps. I have the apps working on a 32bit virtual machine with no problem so it's not 64bit only.

  • The apps won't start in resolutions less than 1024x768. With the Intel GMA500 drivers installed, you can set the resolution to an emulated 1024x768. The Metro apps will launch. Be careful, the weather app uses 100% cpu for the background animation. Also, I recommend you enable 'performance mode' in the Intel Graphics Panel options.

You have to do a clean install. The upgrade install encounters the ACPI problem.

  • how did you bypass the acpi problem installing it ?

  • I see the same experience. None of the apps work but I can get to desktop. N-Trig drivers don't seem to be loading for the DuoSense screen. I was able to load the chipset. I hope that enables HDMI out. All of this works on virtual PC machine.
