The G&L S-500 was ahead of it's time in the 80's, and it's modern feature set still keeps it running at the front of the pack today. It's Magnetic Field Design pickups have all the richness of a vintage single coil, but with more output and less noise, making the G&L S-500 a great axe for recording. The PTB system allows for separate treble and bass controls for each pickup, and in conjunction with the mini toggle switch can pull tons of tones from this guitar. Whammy to your heart's content with the improved dual fulcrum trem. You'll stay in tune through the most aggressive vibrato action, and the substantial mass of this bridge lends to the G&L S-500's huge tone and sustain. A comfortable "C" shape neck and modern 12" radius rosewood fretboard means that comfort and playability will never be lacking. And in a nod to it's vintage lineage, this G&L S500 features a Select Alder body with a classic 3-tone sunburst finish.

  • do the s-500s come with neck profiles other than #1. I'm after a #1b and haven't found one on ebay? :(

  • @dedetube All USA G&L's are custom ordered. May we suggest ordering one through PGS instead of eBay :) We can put together a custom spec'd guitar just for you. Feel free to call us. 503-670-4949

    Thanks!

  • hey andy,

can you explain the PTB system/toggle switch a bit more? what happens when it's "on"? (i assume that's when it's in the up position). does it change how the tone controls work? hope this isn't a stupid question. thanks.

  • @swing8th - PTB system is passive (PTB = Passive Treble Bass), so it's an integral part of the S-500's tone circuit rather than something that is switched on or off. It's basically two separate tone cut knobs, one for rolling off treble and one for rolling off bass. This differs from the standard strat tone control that only cuts treble frequencies. The mini-toggle give you more pickup combinations than a 5-way switch allows, like all three pickups together, for instance. Hope that helps!

  • @Aparashi - S-500's have G&L's Magnetic Field Coil pickups and 5-way switching with a mini-toggle. Legacy's have vintage style Alnico V single coils, 5-way switching and no mini-toggle.

  • I've owned an S-500 for the past 8 years and this guitar kicks ass, so many many distinct sounds can be achieved with this beast!
